Workers at St. Louis-based Laclede Gas face possible strike.

Jul. 31--About 1,300 Laclede Gas Co. workers face the prospect of striking if two unions reject a proposed four-year contract on Sunday.

The contract for Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical and Energy Workers International locals 5-6 and 5-194 expires at 11:59 p.m. Saturday.

The fate of the proposed contract is in doubt because the unions' negotiating committee offered no recommendation on it.

"We're going to present it to (the members) and let them make the decision on their own," said Joe Schulte, business representative for the two locals.
