Washington Mutual to close commercial banking center in Las Vegas.

Jul. 31--Washington Mutual plans to close its commercial banking center in Las Vegas, lay off three people and exit the business of serving the financial needs of mid- and large-size businesses.

The company will continue to serve investors involved in multifamily and commercial real estate and will provide banking services to small businesses through its branches, company spokesman Joe Arbona said Friday.

The company isn't closing any of its retail branches in the Las Vegas area or elsewhere, he said. Washington Mutual has 27 offices in Southern Nevada and plans to add four more by year's end, he said.
