Federal regulators scrutinize grocery distributor Fleming's accounting.

Aug. 1--Federal regulators continue to investigate accounting practices at former Oklahoma City-based Fleming Cos. Inc., taking a closer look at how the grocery distributor recorded some sales and income on its books.

As the company prepares to emerge from bankruptcy Aug. 15, The Oklahoman has obtained copies of internal Fleming documents being scrutinized by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The paper trail covered more than $50 million in sales that Fleming recorded to its retail stores by acting as a middleman between two related Minnesota-based companies. The merchandise included cell phones, TVs, stereo equipment and luggage -- not wares...
