Southwest Airlines reworks top positions; labor relations department to form.

Aug. 5--A restructuring at Southwest Airlines in the wake of its former chief executive's departure will include formation of a new labor relations department.
The overall restructuring was described by officials of Southwest as a "realignment and flattening" of the company's organizational structure.
Gary Kelly, who was named chief executive of the Dallas-based carrier July 15 to succeed James Parker, said Wednesday the objective was to further streamline Southwest's reporting structure.
"We have got a lot of challenges ahead of us, and I think this will position us very well to meet those challenges," Kelly said.
