US Airways warns SEC it may have to re-enter bankruptcy protection.

Aug. 5--US Airways Group Inc. told the Securities and Exchange Commission in stark terms yesterday what company executives warned about last month: If the airline doesn't cut its operating costs by Sept. 30, it may have to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection again.

The airline, the largest carrier at Philadelphia International Airport, said in its second-quarter report to the SEC that it "anticipates risk of failing to comply" with requirements for the loan guarantee it has from the U.S. Air Transportation Stabilization Board. If it falls out compliance, the government board could then demand repayment, the filing said.
