University of Missouri leaders may dump Ken Lay-endowed chair.

Aug. 5--University of Missouri-Columbia leaders favor removing Ken Lay's name from an endowed professorship and returning his $1.1 million donation if he is convicted of a felony, according to university correspondence obtained by the Tribune.

One letter written by MU Chancellor Richard Wallace says Lay, the former chief executive of Enron Corp. and an MU alumnus, is willing to keep his money at the campus "so long as we keep the name on the chair."

Lay was indicted last month in federal court on 11 felony counts of wire fraud, securities fraud, and making false and misleading statements. Lay has pleaded innocent.
