Bellevue, Wash., medical center joins race to build hospital in Issaquah.

Aug. 17--The race to build a new hospital in Issaquah officially began yesterday when Overlake Hospital Medical Center filed an application with the state to build a 120-bed facility.

The Bellevue hospital's move comes eight weeks after Seattle-based Swedish Medical Center filed plans for a 175-bed Issaquah hospital.

The state Department of Health will start comparing the proposals and will likely hold a public hearing later this year so residents can have their say. The state expects to make a decision within six months or so -- but appeals could delay the outcome for a year or more after that.
