Thailand, Peru agree to make tariff cuts on 3,000 items.

Aug. 23--Thailand and Peru have agreed to cut import tariffs on at least 3,000 product items to zero when the bilateral free trade area (FTA) agreement between the two countries takes effect, according to trade negotiators, who participated in the third round of talks last week in Bangkok.

However, the two countries still need to iron out several important issues such as setting up the timeframe for the elimination of tariffs on goods,services and investment as well as for products deemed "sensitive".

Both sides earlier agreed to negotiate for the removal of import taxes within 10 years under a comprehensive bilateral FTA agreement.
