Wal-Mart proposal divides Mission, Kan.

Aug. 25--KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- As a consumer, Diana Cooper shops Wal-Mart for bargains. But as a small-business owner, she worries that the world's largest retailer might be too much competition.

"They will have an aisle or so of merchandise I sell, but not someone who knows how to use the cake pans," Cooper said as she hung holiday decorations in the window of her small shop, Diana's Cake & Candy Supply Shop, at 5727 Johnson Drive in nearby Mission, Kan. "It won't kill me, but it won't help, either."
