Aug. 25--Strong revenue from international flights continues to carry major airlines, according to July airfare data released Tuesday.
July revenue earned per seat mile flown by major carriers rose 1.9 percent over the same month in 2003.
That performance met or slightly exceeded analysts' expectations for the month, traditionally one of the industry's strongest. The results from the Air Transport Association don't include data from Southwest Airlines Co.
International unit revenue - what airlines earned for each seat mile flown - rose 9.4 percent for the month.
Domestic unit revenue fell 1 percent in July for its third straight monthly drop.
