FBI sting operation nets Cranston, R.I., metals refinery.

Aug. 26--A Cranston refinery has pleaded guilty to a charge of mail fraud and agreed to reimburse its customers more than $290,000 because it underpaid them for the precious metals recovered from scrap material, according to the U.S. Attorney's office in Newark, N.J.
Gannon & Scott Inc., 33 Kenney Drive, agreed to the penalties stemming from an undercover investigation conducted in 2001 by the FBI. But the company could face other sanctions when a federal judge holds a sentencing hearing in December.
