Aug. 26--Houston-based Fiesta Mart Inc. is expected to announce Thursday that the privately held chain of Hispanic-oriented grocery stores has been sold to Grocers Supply Co.

Fiesta Mart and Grocers Supply officials wouldn't confirm the sale Wednesday, saying only that an announcement was scheduled for Thursday.

But a source familiar with the negotiations said the 50-store chain has been sold to the Houston-based wholesale grocery distributor, Fiesta's longtime supplier.

Fiesta has 14 stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, one each in Waco and Austin and the remainder in Houston, where it was founded in 1972.
