Sep. 1--MILFORD, Conn. -- The Subway restaurant chain is gambling on a new toy set that allows children to play with plastic food and become "sandwich artists" to broaden its brand recognition.
"This seemed like the natural first step for us," said Kevin Kane, a spokesman for the worldwide franchiser based in Milford. "It gets our name out there." The 77-piece Subway Sandwich Artist Play Set goes on sale today at Toys 'R' Us stores. The set includes a plastic submarine sandwich and deli rolls, plastic cheese slices, tomatoes and other ingredients, and a host of things that children can play with -- and pretend they work at Subway.
