Union, American Airlines at odds over rest periods for flight attendants.

Sep. 2--Fatigued and hungry flight attendants for American Airlines Inc. need longer rest periods between flights, their new union chief says.

But Tommie Hutto-Blake, who became president of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants on Aug. 25, doesn't want to concede anything back to the airline.

"The swap meet is over," she said in an interview Wednesday. "I mean, it's over."

In April 2003, American's 25,000 flight attendants agreed to tighter work hours and to give up in-flight meals as part of concessions worth $340 million annually to the carrier.

American has said it would change specific items in any union contract but only...
