Microsoft's online music store cranks up the competition with Apple.

Sep. 2--Microsoft's MSN Music service is offering music from heavy metal bands like AC/DC and Metallica, which have never before been available on a legal music downloading service.

Microsoft Corp. rolls out a preview version of its online music store today, on a wave of heavy-metal thunder.

In a bid to play catch-up with Apple Computer's popular iTunes Music Store, Microsoft's MSN Music service is offering music from hard-rocking bands like AC/DC and Metallica, which have never before been available on a legal music downloading service.
