Sep. 4--Factory 2-U Stores is going out of business.

The discount retailer -- often compared to Dollar Tree and 99 Cents Only Stores -- soon will close 172 stores, including one in downtown Fresno at the Fulton Mall.

Also closing are stores in northeast and southeast Fresnod outlets in Clovis, Visalia, Madera, Hanford, Kerman and Reedley.

A liquidation sale started Friday and is expected to last until most merchandise is sold.
