CIGNA cuts 60 jobs; 30 are in Bloomfield, Conn.

Sep. 8--CIGNA Corp. confirmed Tuesday it will eliminate 60 jobs -- 30 of them in Bloomfield -- in a money-saving move to outsource some data processing support work.
The outsourcing will affect CIGNA HealthCare employees who process member eligibility information from customers so the company can input the information into its system to administer employers' benefit plans.
The outsourcing contract is with Scranton, Pa.-based Diversified Information Technologies, and some of the work will be done in India, CIGNA spokesman Michael Frandsen said. CIGNA has used Diversified for several years for "electronic mailroom" work; Diversified scans member enrollment...
