Sep. 10--The parachute system for the NASA space capsule that crashed Wednesday in the Utah desert was made by a South Windsor company that says early evidence suggests its product did not cause the failure.

NASA's Genesis capsule, containing delicate solar particle samples collected over three years, slammed into the ground at nearly 200 miles an hour after its parachute system did not deploy.

Pioneer Aerospace Corp., the parachute maker, said Thursday that the mechanism that was intended to start the parachute release apparently did not work.
