Rent-Way chief visits damaged Florida stores.

Sep. 11--Rent-Way Chief Executive Bill Morgenstern said a tour of his company's stores in Florida left him with a mixture of pride in his employees and sympathy for their plight.

Morgenstern, who was on his way home to Erie Friday night, said he visited 10 to 15 of the 60 stores Erie-based Rent-Way operates in Florida.

"It's not a pretty picture," he said. "People don't realize how bad it is." With Hurricane Ivan still threatening, Morgenstern said boarded-up stores will remain under wraps until the next threat passes.

That hasn't kept employees from helping with recovery efforts, he said.
