Freeze on new insurance policies may snarl home closings along Texas' coast.

Sep. 14--Hurricane Ivan will likely delay some people from closing on their homes along the Texas coast during the next few days, even though the storm isn't expected -- so far -- to land in the state.
That's because most insurers, including State Farm, Allstate and Farmers, stopped selling new policies in the area Monday morning after Ivan passed 80 degrees west longitude and 20 degrees north latitude, near the Yucatan peninsula. When storms cross those imaginary lines, entering the Gulf of Mexico, most insurers see writing new business as too risky.
