School leaders in Orange County, Fla., wrangle over sales-tax use.

Sep. 14--School budget debates became uncharacteristically heated Monday when board members questioned whether old schools or new ones should get money from a sales tax passed two years ago.

At a budget work session Monday, Orange County School Board member Karen Ardaman questioned why more money wasn't going to build additional schools, while other board members argued that decrepit schools need the money.

"We can't just jump up every time somebody moves into a neighborhood and say we're going to build a new school," board member Kat Gordon said.
