Health Net to expand Medicare HMOs in Connecticut.

Sep. 15--Health Net, which dropped thousands of angry senior citizens in Connecticut during the late 1990s through 2000, now plans to re-grow its Medicare HMO from three counties to statewide.

Health Net of the Northeast, part of a California-based health insurer, confirmed Tuesday it plans to re-enter five additional Connecticut counties Jan. 1, and will launch some new, lower-priced Medicare plans for this fall and next year.

After years of shrinking their Medicare HMO programs and dropping more than 2 million seniors nationwide, insurers attracted by higher federal reimbursements are starting to expand the plans once again.
