Pentagon aircraft contract enables Tucson, Ariz., company to double staff.

Sep. 15--A Pentagon commitment to buy locally made unmanned aircraft will enable a Tucson firm to nearly double its staff of engineers and technicians.
The U.S. Navy on Monday announced a contract worth up to $25 million to increase its arsenal of Silver Fox Unmanned Aerial Vehicles made by Advanced Ceramics Research Inc., 7800 S. Old Nogales Highway.
The roots of the Silver Fox, which costs $20,000 to $60,000, are in marine mammal observation, said Woody Berzins, spokesman for ACR.
"The Navy has used the aircraft to keep its ships from running into whales," Berzins said.
