Takeover likely at British online travel agent ebookers.

Sep. 16--The game appears to be up for ebookers, the online travel agent that has ridden the rollercoaster of the dot-com boom to become one of Britain's best-recognised internet consumer brands.

While chief executive Dinesh Dhamija is pledging not to sell shareholders short in current takeover talks, few believe ebookers has the wherewithal to last the pace in an ever more cut-throat market.

The odds are shortening that ebookers could get a takeover offer valuing it at around UKpound 200 million (or 300p a share, against a recent two-and-a-half-year low of 121p) possibly from either of the US giants -- Travelocity or InterActiveCorp, the group behind Expedia....
