National retailer Staples buys Hartford, Conn.-based Hartford Office Supply.

Sep. 23--Hartford Office Supply Inc. has been acquired by Staples, the nation's largest office-supply chain, leaving about 100 employees fearing layoffs and uncertain about their future.
An official of Framingham, Mass.-based Staples said the 54-year-old Hartford company's employees will be invited to apply for jobs at a Staples warehouse 48 miles east in Putnam.
"Every one of the associates in the Hartford facility will be offered a chance to apply for positions in that facility," said Jay Baitler, executive vice president of the Staples Contract Division, which manages sales and deliveries to businesses.
