Thai transport minister challenges port deal's critics to show evidence.

Sep. 23--The award of a 51-billion-baht, 30-year management contract for the Laem Chabang deep-sea port could be scrapped if there was evidence of malpractice during the bidding, Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit said yesterday.

A coalition led by Hong Kong-based Hutchison Port was declared the winner of the contract last week by an evaluation committee, beating out rival bids led by Singapore's PSA Corp and the Port of Dubai. The Hutchison Port group also includes Hutchison Thailand and Lexton (Thailand).

But allegations of abuse have dogged the project, which calls for the construction and management of six new berths at Laem Chabang....
