Sep. 25--OIL HELPS DRIVE STOCKS TO WEEKLY LOSS: A slight uptick in daily prices didn't prevent the stock market from ending the week with a loss on Friday, battered as it was by another interest rate increase and record-high oil prices.
The final partial week of the third quarter, which begins on Monday, also is loaded with economic reports with market-moving potential, including two September consumer sentiment indexes.
"We believe the pattern of seasonal weakness during September and October is likely to influence the market in the near term, so we think it is prudent to remain cautious," said Standard & Poor's chief strategist Sam Stovall.
