United Technologies chooses veteran executive as president of Hamilton unit.

Sep. 25--United Technologies Corp. announced Friday that David P. Hess will become president of Hamilton Sundstrand on Jan. 1, replacing Ronald F. McKenna, who will become Hamilton's chairman.

Hess, president of Hamilton's Aerospace Power Systems unit and its 7E7 program, joined the Windsor Locks-based company in 1979 as a young engineer. Now 49, he has worked closely with McKenna since McKenna took the company's helm in 1999.

That's the year UTC bought Sundstrand Corp., then based in Rockford, Ill., and merged it with Hamilton Standard. McKenna had worked at Sundstrand for 30 years. He is credited with leading the successful melding of the two...
