New dean of New Mexico university focuses on economic development project.

Sep. 27--LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Former Gov. Garrey Carruthers is turning his energy to his new role as vice provost of economic development at New Mexico State University.

Carruthers, an entrepreneur known for helping build Cimarron Health Care, joined the university last summer as dean of the business college.

In his newest job there, he is focused on his 2-month-old brainchild, a nonprofit dubbed Arrowhead Center Inc.

The center, conceived early this year to commercialize technology birthed at the university, is already morphing into a much more sophisticated economic development engine than Carruthers first proposed.
