Aetna may decide to buy part of Magellan Health Services this year.

Sep. 29--Aetna is expected to decide by year-end whether to buy part of Magellan Health Services and still has no intention of making mega-deals, a Merrill Lynch report said Tuesday.

In a previously reported agreement, Aetna has the option to buy the portion of Magellan's business that is dedicated to Aetna clients.

Farmington-based Magellan is the nation's largest manager of behavioral health care benefits, such as mental health and substance abuse treatment. Its customers are health plans, employers, and government agencies covering nearly 59 million people.
