Oct. 1--SBC Communications Inc. filed a lawsuit alleging that Dallas-based VarTec Telecom Inc., four other phone companies and 10 unnamed individuals conspired to defraud the telecommunications giant of millions in telephone fees.
Filed in federal district court in St. Louis on Sept. 24, the case that alleges VarTec and its partners illegally avoided paying San Antonio-based SBC $19 million to $35 million in access charges for handling their long-distance calls.
VarTec declined to comment, saying it doesn't talk about pending litigation. SBC also named PointOne Telecommunications Inc., Unipoint Holdings Inc., Transcom Enhanced Services LLC and Transcom Holdings LLC.
