Southwest Gas case leaves Nevada regulators, consumer advocates at odds.

Oct. 2--The Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection, which represents consumers and small businesses in utility rate cases, demonstrated this week how it can be a thorn in the side of other rate case participants.

Southwest Gas Corp. expressed outrage over comments that Bureau Chief Tim Hay made in a motion in the gas company's pending rate case.

The dispute stemmed from the PUC staff's written recommendation that the three-member commission raise Southwest Gas rates by almost twice the amount the company sought in Southern Nevada to cover the rising price of natural Gas.
