With Bank of America, FleetBoston merger, bank executive's star rises.

Oct. 5--Saturday mornings often find Brian T. Moynihan multitasking. The president of Bank of America Corp.'s wealth and investment management division stashes the household garbage in the back of the family minivan and drives it to the dump, while his children chatter in the back seat. As he drives, Moynihan talks with colleagues on his cellphone about complicated business transactions, performing many of the calculations in his head.

"There are three kids hollering, cans of trash banging, and he'd be asking me legal questions," said Duncan Johnson, a lawyer who collaborated with Moynihan on Fleet Bank's acquisitions during the 1980s and 1990s.
