Oct. 7--In a bullish note to clients of Brewin Dolphin, chief strategist Mike Lenhoff says: "Imagine what a bid for Barclays Bank would do for the market." The simple answer is that it would send the Footsie, which is heavily weighted towards the bank sector, marching towards the magic year-end level of 5,000.
Rumours of an imminent Footsie mega bid remain rife. Corporate financiers at a leading broking house are said to be burning the midnight oil working on a multi-billion pound deal in the financial sector.
