Job growth weak, Labor Department says.

Oct. 9--In the final unemployment report before the election, the Labor Department reported Friday that job growth continued in September but in a badly weakened state -- providing campaign fodder for both presidential camps.
The report found that the nation added 96,000 jobs in September, far short of the 150,000 most analysts had expected. The government also revised August's job gain from 144,000 to 128,000. Unemployment remained unchanged, at 5.4 percent.
