FAA blocks bankrupt Great Plains Airlines from selling operating certificate.

Oct. 14--Bankrupt Great Plains Airlines, which owes St. Clair County $750,000, made misleading statements about plans to raise money by selling its operating certificate, federal authorities said Wednesday.

Tulsa-based Great Plains, whose holding company is Ozark Air Lines Inc., cannot sell or transfer the Federal Aviation Administration certificate, assistant U.S. attorneys representing the FAA said in a court filing.

The development could undermine attempts by St. Clair County to recoup money it lent the airline last year to spur activity at MidAmerica Airport.

Attorneys for Great Plains were not available for comment.
