Founding Chairman Herb Kelleher to remain at Southwest Airlines until 2007.

Oct. 15--Herb Kelleher, co-founder and spiritual heart of Southwest Airlines Co., will remain chairman for three more years under a contract signed this summer, the Dallas-based carrier revealed in a regulatory filing Thursday.

Earlier this year, Southwest's board waived its mandatory retirement age to accommodate Mr. Kelleher, 73, who stepped down as chief executive in 2001.

A vigorous and enthusiastic Mr. Kelleher said last week his time remains focused on strategic planning for the carrier as well as serving on national committees related to air travel safety.
