New CEO aims to make Barclays more profitable.

Oct. 15--Barclays bank has set out plans to boost profits in its core High Street business by up to UKpound 700m in the next two years.
The bank -- which has already made UKpound 1.2 billion in the first six months of this year from retail banking -- denied it intends to gouge more charges from its 15m UK personal and small business customers.
It said it would bump up its bottom line by cutting costs and by improving customer service.
Spokesman Hilary McVitie admitted that service from the banks -- including Barclays -- is "not great." She said: "We aim to improve. It is the right thing to do and satisfied customers buy more."
