Oct. 16--Who would be a Marks & Spencer private shareholder?

When the company was under siege in July, crowds of them turned up at the company's annual general meeting to pledge their loyalty to the company and its defence team of Paul Myners and Stuart Rose.

Promises were made of goodies for shareholders if they stuck with the existing regime and sent Bhs and Arcadia tycoon Philip Green packing.

So how are they going to be rewarded for their loyalty? Most of them now know. Cazenove, on Marks' behalf, has sent them one of the most incomprehensible documents dispatched to private shareholders inviting them to tender their shares.
