Rolls-Royce picks Hamilton Sundstrand to provide system for Boeing Dreamliner.

Oct. 19--Hamilton Sundstrand has been chosen by Rolls-Royce to provide a critical system for the engine maker's offering for the new Boeing 7E7 Dreamliner.

Rolls-Royce announced Monday that Windsor Locks-based Hamilton will design and build the gearbox system for the Trent 1000 engine for the new jetliner. Hamilton estimated the engine work could be worth more than $350 million.

Boeing already had chosen the United Technologies Corp. division to provide eight systems for the 7E7. That work has a potential value of more than $6 billion over the life of the program if orders prove as solid as Boeing expects.
