Oct. 21--Negotiators for jet engine-maker Pratt & Whitney and its 4,400 unionized machinists are set to hold their first meeting today at the Marriott hotel in Farmington as they begin bargaining for a new three-year contract agreement.

Pratt and the International Association of Machinists have about six weeks to negotiate before the existing contract expires on Dec. 5. Pension benefits, wages, job security and health insurance for existing workers and early-retirees are expected to be key issues in the talks.
