Oct. 20--Media group Reuters wants to sell video news clips direct to consumers over the internet or mobile phones. The move to cut out the middle man comes after years of supplying news to the likes of CNN and Yahoo!
"We are trying to leapfrog established media and look for new opportunities," Reuters finance chief David Grigson said.
Sales of Reuters' trading tools outpaced cancellations in the third quarter for the first time since early 2001. But revenues fell 13 percent, partly hit by the weak dollar. Grigson remains cautious for 2005.
While Reuters sales staff have been told to aim for growth next year, he described it as a "stretched ambition."
