Charleston, S.C.-based banks see earnings slip.

Oct. 22--Two Charleston-based banking companies said Thursday their latest quarterly earnings were down from a year ago.

First Financial Holdings Inc. said its net income in the three months ended in September slipped to $6.2 million, or 49 cents a share, from $6.9 million, or 53 cents a share, in the same period last year. The quarterly earnings were in line with Wall Street analysts' expectations.
