Calhoun County, S.C., keeps SCE&G for natural gas contract.

Oct. 27--ST. MATTHEWS, S.C. -- Calhoun County Council gave the nod Monday to SCE&G, rather than the city of Orangeburg's Department of Public Utilities, to supply natural gas to the Exit 139 area of Interstate 26.

"Let's stay with (SCE&G), but write and say we'd like for them to make a move within a year," Council Chairman David Summers said.

Although SCE&G had expressed interest in an area franchise, the public utility wanted to wait until the area was already developed. DPU, on the other hand, was ready to move immediately.
