Unilever to launch advertising blitz after soap wars hit sales.

Oct. 28--Dove-to-diet-food giant Unilever has earmarked an extra 100 million pounds for advertising in the run-up to Christmas as it tries to halt a sales slide.
It is also lathering up for a price war in Asia where arch rival Procter & Gamble has been attacking its share of the soap powder and shampoo market.
Group turnover slid 4 percent to 7.4 billion pounds in the three months to September, confirming the poor performance that Unilever warned of last month. Profits eased 2 percent to 911 million pounds.
In contrast, P&G, maker of Pantene shampoo and Crest toothpaste, reported a 12 percent quarterly sales lift to 7.5 billion pounds.
