Nissan reports record operating profit in first fiscal half.

Oct. 29--TOKYO -- Nissan Motor Co. said Friday it posted a record group operating profit for the fiscal first half ending Sept. 30 for the eighth consecutive half-year based on brisk sales overseas and cost-cutting efforts.
The carmaker, which is owned 44.3 percent by French automaker Renault S.A., said in its consolidated group earnings report that its operating profit rose 0.6 percent from a year earlier to 403.44 billion yen on a 12.7 percent rise in sales to a record 4,007.94 billion yen.
Sales hit a record-high level for the second consecutive half-year period, Nissan said.
