Oct. 30--PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brooks Pharmacy, in an attempt to stand out, is testing a new hair-color mixing system aimed at stealing business from salons.
Developed by a German company, the Sempre Hair Color Mix machine helps shoppers customize their hair color, a sometimes inexact bit of alchemy normally handled by salon beauticians or people hunched over bathroom sinks.
Sempre has put more than 100 of the machines in European salons and struck a deal with a Southport, Conn., investment company to market the system in North America.
