Pulses race, shares rise over 2 new drugs in GlaxoSmithkline pipeline.

Nov. 2--GlaxoSmithkline issued more encouraging updates on two fledgling drugs -- providing a much-needed tonic for the shares (up 16 pence to [pounds sterling]11.63).

It underlines analysts' claims that GSK has the strongest new-products pipeline of any pharmaceutical firm.

Studies show its breast cancer pill Lapatinib fights tumours that have shown no response to existing treatment. Its experimental anti-Aids compound keeps patients healthy for longer with fewer side effects than current therapies.

GSK is emerging from a year of zero growth as sales of some of its best-selling products dissolved under copycat competition.
