Prudential faces tough task to replace chief executive.

Nov. 3--Prudential chairman David Clementi will have to look outside the company for a chief executive to replace the embattled Jonathan Bloomer, according to industry sources.

Insurance executives say it is likely to be several months before the former deputy governor of the Bank of England can produce a credible replacement for Bloomer.

Neither Michael McLintock, head of the Pru's fund management division, nor Mark Wood, head of UK operations, are seen as having the breadth of expertise to run the group.

Promoting one of the powerful barons serving under Bloomer could anger the others and further destabilise the company.
