Dean plans to return to University of California's business school.

Nov. 5--Tom Campbell said Thursday he expects to return to UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business as its dean once he finishes what he expects will be a 16-month stint as California's finance boss.

After visiting Sacramento where he was introduced as the state's director of finance, Campbell said in an interview with the Times that he plans to return to the East Bay business school sometime around or soon after March 2006.

"The (UC Berkeley) chancellor has given me a leave of absence, so I still have the job," Campbell said. "There will be an acting dean while I'm director of finance. I will pick up my five-year appointment when I return....
